Charnwood Forest Railway
Image by Duncan Harris The bridge carries Tickow Lane over the Charnwood Forest Railway, which up until this bridge is a public footpath. Beyond the bridge it is a farmer's track and not officially a footpath though it is basically treated as such until Blackbrook Farm. The bridges over the line were built so that they wouldn't need to be rebuilt if they doubled it - though this never happened. The line never saw much traffic - passenger services were withdrawn by the LMS in 1931; they wouldn't have been able to compete with buses; freight was withdrawn by BR in 1963.
